Can I dye my black hair to brown with semi permanent hair dye?

I want to dye for the first time but am trying to avoid the permanent dye. Can I use semi permanent dye to dye the black to brown? What is a good brand to use? What about if I have to use permanent dye?Can I dye my black hair to brown with semi permanent hair dye?
No. Semi-permanent is deposit only, meaning that it can only deposit molecules into the hair shaft. To lighten color you have to disperse the molecules in the hair shaft. If you have never dyed your hair before you can do this with dye, if you have you must use bleach, and then tone it. But you can tone it with semi-permanent color. Well all dyes fade and i always buy the cheap brands....black hair is so beautiful....just make sure you moisturize your hair after you dye just try these treatments or you could damage your hair.....

going lighter means you have to strip pigment from your hair then dye it the lighter colour. putting a brown dye on black hair will just make ur hair darker unless it has bleach in it
