What is the concept of having a little girl with black hair covering half their face in horror movies?

I was wondering, because I see this in horror movies like The Ring, The Grudge and so on. Even in video games like F.E.A.R. there is a freaky little girl. Where did the idea for this concept come from? Is it because it creates fear not knowing what's behind that mask of black hair? What is the concept of having a little girl with black hair covering half their face in horror movies?
Well movies like The Ring and The Grudge are based off Japanese originals, and in the Japanese culture, as with many other Asian cultures, female ghost are depicted with white clothing and long disheveled black hair. This concept has now become more popular and has shown up in other pop culture such as F.E.A.R.

Shadow affect such that shadows hovering over us though we can see them, but they are not quite distinctive as a full figure yet leave some of us with a haunting like feeling....The image, possibly, hollywood would use for one's personal demons... that a person has not resolved in their life yet? Taking a wild guess.
WOAH YOU'RE SO RIGHT!! i just realized that from all the movies i've watched, a lot and lots of them have a creepy little girl with black or brown hair covering her face D:
