What products are good for natural black hair?

I cut all my relaxed hair and decided to go natural. I want to know what products I should use to keep my hair clean, moisturize and growing. My hair is really thick and very hard to comb unless it's wet. so anyone can give me tips on what to do?What products are good for natural black hair?
I recently went natural as well and my hair is pretty long and very strong.

There are 2 shampoo types to consider:

The No-poo method which is taking a cheap clarifying conditioner and soaking it through your hair. Let it sit while you are in the shower and then rinse it out cold. It cleans the hair really well without drying it. Dried out hair is harder to detangle. Ex- VO5 or Suave clarifying shampoo.

The second shampoo to use is one that doesn't have sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate. This really dries out the hair and is in most shampoos. You can find it anywhere that would sell health product and sometimes in regular stores. When you wash your hair with this just pull it through maintaining the tangle-free hair as much as possible. Take care to massage scalp without tangling hair.

There are Miss Jessie and Carol's daughter products that are good for detangling but I don't need to used them because I am so careful. Keep in mind that when you comb your hair out you use a wide tooth comb and comb around the scalp. Meaning hair in the front is combed forward, hair on the sides are combed to their corresponding side and hair in the back in combed to the back.

Then put a conditioner in and make sure you are using or alternative between a protein conditioner and a mosturizing one. For protein I used Garnier.

After that is good to put a leave in but DO NOT TOWEL DRY. Towel drying frizzes hair; just let it air dry. Then spray with olive oil hair sheen to seal in water moisture.

If you want to elongate and define your curls, buy some kinky curly curling custard and apply liberally.

I know this may sound like a lot but it is very quick and your hair will become so strong and healthy.

You can try Carol鈥檚 daughter hair products for natural hair. They have moisturizers, shampoo, hair milk, hair oil, hair smoothie ect. For natural hair of any race.

You can check out the website at www.carolsdaughter.com, I have been using that product for 3 years and have mad long locks, hope you like it.

P.S I am not big on the shampoos that they have...so I use regular suave shampoo or herbal essences, but that is because by my hair is so thick, suave %26amp; H.E gives u a good lather and you only have to use a little of it. Everything else that C. Daughter offer rocks to me.
try sulfur8 it stinks but it will make your grow....Doo gro oil works good as well to...chemicals are really harsh on your hair...so if you take away the chemicals your hair will begin to grow...braids help my hair grow...fast...oh, and don't use tons of grease that only clog your pores and prevent hair from growing....keeping your hair well condition will help to...find yourself some leave in conditioner....good luck!
I think the Best Products on the marlket now is PANTENE...they have products for every type of hair and for all types of problem hair.

How can I die my naturally black hair brown at home?

Some people have told me that i should do a light brown since I want a darker brown, but some people say I have to bleach it.

What should I do?

Thanks in advance! How can I die my naturally black hair brown at home?
Prepare your hair for whats to come. The treatment will not be good for your hair and you will need to make preventative steps. Wash with dandruff shampoo and use lemon juice water in a spray bottle to start gently removing the color’s potency. Wash often and use a deep conditioner.

Consider your hair’s distinct qualities first and reflect on hair color experiences you have had in the past. Ask yourself questions like “Does my hair react badly to color? Does it turn frail or brittle? Am I susceptible to split ends more then most people? Have I already dyed my hair more than once already?”

Consult a professional. Schedule a few consultations with recommended colorists in your area to get multiple opinions on the state your hair is in and what type of damage it can still endure. Allow the colorist to assess your hair for porosity and to determine both your hair color level and your natural level, if possible, in order to decide which course of action to take.

Look into retail and drugstore products, many companies like L’Oreal and Walgreen’s have hair color removers some will take out the color but leave you with an equally undesirable result which you can dye over, if your hair is very healthy this is not a bad route and can be fairly inexpensive. Regular color does not remove color it only adds, if your color is dark damage is the only thing you will receive from dying overtop a very dark color.

Start your hair treatment. Use your drugstore product or if your hair is already getting damaged from dyes then you will have to go the more cautious route and involve a The colorists you consulted with will have given you great ideas. You will also find more great ideas in the tips section of this article.

Try to keep an open mind. The most important thing is the health of your hair. Follow the advice given you by the colorist and your hair will be healthier and the end result will be better! Be prepared for the possibility that it might take several services, and therefore months, to fix. This is not always something you can do yourself. How can I die my naturally black hair brown at home?
You will need to use a permanent haircolor to lighten your hair. My advice would be to use 20volume developer with a level 4 ash haircolor. Your hair will have a tendency to go red brown since it is so dark. If you have a virgin head of hair, it's kind of tricky to apply it the first time so you may want to go to a colorist the first time that you have this done. You may be able to touch it up yourself, only putting the color at the new growth. good luck and have fun! email me if you have further questions.

Don't ruin your hair with highlights! Dark hair like yours looks better without highlights. but if you really want them, do dark to medium brown ones, anything other than that will look really fake.

I don't know of any color that looks bad with black, but if you want to play it safe you could always just wear black. Don't overdo it, though. And be careful matching your blacks. (Yes, there's a such thing as matching your blacks.)

    Remember: ';Friends don't let friends dress like The Crow!';
definitely red. i would stay away from the dark blues, i feel like they just clash too much with black hair. also i think lighter colors would look good. like, a sky blue, pale yellow, green would look really good too! keep in mind, light and bright!
Red and white is hot. Though black hair's a neutral color, so anything you wear will match..at least your hair.

You can do two things that dont require bleach.

At the hair dressers i got my hair colour 'stripped'

it just fades it alot. My colour was perminant and this made a drastic difference.

The other thing you can do is use anti-dandruff shampoo! It actually fades hair die. Ive also had good experience with doing this

No regular hair die will lighten it unless it contains peroxide/bleach

How can you dye dyed black hair a lighter color?

sorry but you seriously have to go to a hairdresser and get it stripped theres no way you can do it at home, this is prolly the ONLY thing that you have to go the the hairdresser for in regards to dye, going from black to a lighter color is just impossible unless you're going for colors like bright red, hot pink, or electric blue, those dyes are super strong, but they wear out fast so good and bad.
Fade it out with lots of washing (clarifying shampoos, or head%26amp;shoulders are good) in hot water. Do this before you consider bleaching. If it still won't work you may have to consider bleaching just far enough down for your golden brown to work.
You have dye it in stages in order for the black to be able to take a light color.
don't waist your money go stright to a hairdresser
very first thing you need to do is let the recently applied dye fade. you can help it along by washing your hair often, preferable with dish washing liquid.

once it has faded, you will need to bleach out your hair to get it as light as possible. wellite cream bleach is a good bet, it isn't expensive, it's available everywhere and doesn't smell too terrible! you may want to put some blue additive in there to counter act any red base the 2nd color you added may have had. this is so you don't end up with orange hair.

when applying the bleach follow the directions to a T!! do not leave it on longer in an attempt to get your hair lighter, this will damage it! you can fold each section into tin foil as you apply the bleach, this will help you keep your hair evenly covered and add extra heat. the heat will help the bleach activate and work more efficiently (ie: faster and you'll get optimum results.) if you are brave you can try using your blow dryer ot add some more heat.

when rinsing the bleach remember, shampoo only. do not condition, it will coat your hair and hinder your color from sticking properly.

once the bleach process is completed, you can use the base color you hair is to help you decide what color dye to add. meaning, if the bleach made your hair two shades darker than your target color, you will need to chose a darker shade than originally selected.

that said, it could take more than one process before you get back to your desired color.

    good luck, happy dying!

How do you go from black hair to brown hair after you dyed it yourself?

I'm thinking about dying my hair black over the summer, but

I want to go back to my natural color, which is brown hair for school. Do you have any tips on how I could go back to brown after I dye it?How do you go from black hair to brown hair after you dyed it yourself?
I would suggest doing it professionally, not by yourself with drug-store hair dye (the brown, black would be alright to do by yourself). I died my hair black about a year and a half ago on accident. You can try the dyes at the drugstore made for darker hair going lighter, but they never worked for me. It either only colored the ends or turned it to a reddish color for a few days, then it would just fade back to black. If you're going to go back brown, I would go to a salon and do it professionally because what they'll do is strip the color out of your hair, making it easier to dye. Plus, they just know what they're doing.

Hope I could help? How do you go from black hair to brown hair after you dyed it yourself?
it would be easier to go from black to brown if you go to a stylist/professionals. usually, for do it yourself hair dyes, it takes longer to make your hair lighter from a dark color.
wait till it wears off or dye it back to brown.

How do I highlight my black hair burgundy/redish without it fading?

I have black hair. I have previously highlighted it succesfully copper, and redish/burgundy. However, the red I had previously faded to a dark brown. How do I highlight my hair burgundy/red without it fading? Should I bleach it first then dye over it in the red color, or no?How do I highlight my black hair burgundy/redish without it fading?
Bleaching first will allow for more color deposit and vibrancy, but it would be damaging. The real issue is how you take care of the color, too much time in the sun, hard water, clarifying shampoos dull color. Switch to color enhancing shampoos or non sulfate lines like pureology, stay out of direct sun, and buy a water filtering shower head/faucet to maintain color longer. How do I highlight my black hair burgundy/redish without it fading?
If your gonna do it yourself, and if you don't want to kill your hair by bleaching then dying it... You should buy L'Oreal hair color for dark hair. It's sold at professional beauty and hair places like Sally's. It is specially made for people with dark hair. My hair is very dark brown, almost black and the red I highlighted in my hair lasted so long (helped out by shampoo and conditioner for colored hair). I live by this dye. It's awesome!!!
the best way to have that color in your hair since it's so dark is to lighten it first, but no matter what you do red will fade, in any hair the red fades after a while.

Getting my black hair professionaly bleached, what should i do before the appointment?

I have naturally blonde hair but ive dyed it black for the past three years.

For the past two months i stopped dying it and it doesn't seem to be fading and the only difference is my horrible roots.

So i set an appointment to have them strip and bleach it.

Is theres anything that i should suggest or that i should do post hair appoinment.

And also if my hair comes out brassy would it work if i dyed it a blonde colour?Getting my black hair professionaly bleached, what should i do before the appointment?
I am naturally blonde too and had black hair for a while before i went and got it stripped. I don't understand why they're bleaching it though? When I had my hair stripped they removed all the hair dye and I had my natural hair underneath, so all I had to do to get it blonde again was get a few foils put in.

I hope they're not bleaching over the black because a friend of mine did that recently and her hair come brassy (like orange nearly) there was nothing they could do to fix it and they peroxided her hair that many times that she has now spend $800 and her hair is still brassy. Once it's brassy it's so hard to get it out so make sure you're going somewhere where they know what they're doing.Getting my black hair professionaly bleached, what should i do before the appointment?

I suggest a deep conditioner and don't use and heat on your hair for as long as you can before the appointment. Baby your hair.

If you hair comes out brassy, which it most likely will, if you dye it an ash blonde color it should help. I suggest Clairol Brass Free Blondes

    They're ammonia free and nondamaging
I would suggest letting it grow out. I had my hair bleached before for the same reason, I'm naturally blonde, and dyed it black. By the time they were done my head was killing me, it was more of a red, they couldn't get my hair back to natural color, since black is really hard to get it, I went through three rounds of bleaching. When I came home and brushed my hair, it cut my scalp open, and I bled. So I had clumps of dried blood on my head for a while, I couldn't brush them out, since it only made my head bleed more. Bleaching really ruins the hair also, it's the worst thing you can do to it.
If your hair comes out brassy they will put a toner in it so it gets out the brassiness! Make sure that you like the color of your hair before you leave. After they color it DO NOT go to the store and put a color over the blonde they did. Chances are it will not come out the color your trying to achieve!

What will black hair look like when bleached with lemon juice?

Well a friend of mine told me that a good way to lighten your hair is to put lemon juice and go outside in the sun. She didn't know what color my hair would turn to, however. So i'm wondering what color would black hair turn when bleached with lemon juice? Needed to know because i want to try to dye my hair with kool-aid haha. What will black hair look like when bleached with lemon juice?
Oh boy. I hope you aren't too concerned with the outcome. The color it would turn out to be depends on the texture of your hair and the chemicals of your body when you do it. Lemon juice isn't a reliable way to bleach. The acid slowly strips the color, so essentially it's only lightened. But again, that depends on your hair. I've never seen anyone attempt it with hair darker than a medium brown, and that's not too pretty with or without Kool-Aid. They did it for fun, though. What will black hair look like when bleached with lemon juice?
It would turn to an orange copper color. Really ugly color. If you wanna dye your hair without bleach, try using some hair dye that brand is L'oreal with imprints saying FOR DARK HAIR ONLY(found only in beauty stores) with the developer of a 20 or 30 depending how bright you want the color, dont use a 40 unless you want blonde.
Black hair is really hard to lift, most people have to bleach the **** out of it to lighten it (i know from experience) so I really doubt some lemon juice will do much to be honest. If anything it might get an orangey brown color. Lightening hair always makes it a warmer shade unless you tone it.
It will most likely turn your hair either brown or very light brown. The sun can also help lighten your hair.
    it will turn orange
orange...dont do it! my friend did and...well it didnt look so good

I have black hair, and i want to put some highlights in it. What is the best color for me?

I'm a male and brown skin, pretty much like my avatar lol, and my hair is long and thick. Check up AVON coz they have lot of advanced techniques for hair-styling and also moisturisers which could possibly help you best. See their new catalogue listed here and set up a date with a professional advisor or shop online at www.avon.com. it will also cost you less.I have black hair, and i want to put some highlights in it. What is the best color for me?
since your hair is naturally black (I'm guessing) you could use a lighter dye mixed with a 40 volume developer to lighten your hair, but a semi-perm color won't lift your hair at all, you would just get say a slight tint that might show up red in the sun for a week or so. A demi-perm color might lift slightly, all a demi permanent color is, is a regular dye mixed with a very low volume developer (for example, 9 volume developer is used in Calirol's line of demi-perm colors) Demi will only lioft slightly if at all, but you're pretty much going to have to commit to permanent highlights if you want them more than .5 to 1 level lighter than your hair already is. :)
personally i like varying shades of red/brown on dark hair. i don't really like that blond hightlight thing on dark skin and dark hair.
I would add a few medium to light brown foils and dark blonde foils, but not all over, just on the top half of your head.
I think dark and medium brown highlights work best on black hair and brown skin. Not too dramatic but noticable.

How do I go from black hair to brown hair?

It's weird, but my parents have dark brown hair, sort of chocolate brown. Well my mom does, my dad's hair is like mine. I have black hair that is red toned I guess you'd call it? When you look in the sun, it looks reddish brown, but in general it's blackish. My stylist said that it'd be difficult to go from my red toned hair to a brown based brunette. Is there any way I can at the salon? NOT at home? Thanks! How do I go from black hair to brown hair?
She said it would be ';difficult'; not impossible. Since your hair is so dark she might have to bleach it and then color it the red tone you want, it depends how many shades your natural hair color is from the color you want. Or, you can always get a second opinion. I've heard black is a really hard color to dye over. How do I go from black hair to brown hair?
You'd have to keep going to the salon and have her dye your hair shades of light ash brown. Although you will not see a huge improvement the first couple of times, it will eventually turn a brown color later.

Also, I've seen many Asians do this: They get iiiiincredibly thin highlights on their hair. The bleach sits in the hair for only a few minutes so as to not allow it to get too light. If the streaks are thin enough, the light brown will blend with the black and give a brown effect. It looks nice. The lightlights aren't too noticeable; it's more of a natural look.

If bleach doesn't work, try an oxygen based cleaner...like OxyClean or other similar product. Wet a paper towel or old white washcloth with which ever chemical you use and leave it on the stain overnight.

This may sound weird, but I use relish... yes RELISH. I dye my hair black all the time and I found this to be the best way to remove stains on my sink and counter, toilet, etc.

How well does the black hair color spray sold at Halloween wash out of hair?

I was wondering. My daughter wanted to be Cleopatra for Halloween. Her hair is the right length and I was trying to decide between a wig (she is 7 and I thought it might be itchy and not stay on so well) and the colored hair spray that is sold at walmart and such.

Her hair is a dark blonde. I know that the semipermanent haircolor in black doesn't wash out very well, so was kind of afraid of the black hair spray. Has anyone used it? How easily does it come out?

I use a brand from Sally's Beauty Supply and it mostly washes out the first time. It depends on the brand... the cheaper ones don't wash out as easily. I use it on my hair a lot, and it hasn't damaged it. Good luck. =]

You need a soft or natural black shade. My favorite is Feria's ';Black Leather';--not too dark but not dark brown. Most brands do not list that it is a natural shade, so compare color swatches with unnatural black dye shades (like Feria's ';Starry Night'; and Garnier's 100% Color ';Blue Black';).

Avoid jet black and colors with a blue or purple base--these always look like a wig, lol.

Good luck~How do I get black hair dye to look natural?
Black hair from the bottle will always look like it came from the bottle. It's a BIG mistake. Don't do it. If you can't afford to have it professionally done, ask a hairdresser if he or she can recommend a product you could buy that would help you to blend the shades. They can be very helpful. Your other option is, of course, to let it grow out naturally.

Elbow grease with warm water and soap.
    I use Azulene oil.
try tomato sauce, this is what I use if my hair turns out too dark so it might work on skin too, worth a try, good luck.
Any type of facial astringent. Sea Breeze worked for me.
    finger nail polish remover
baby oil, just take a wet towel, some baby oil, and scrub for about 30 to 50 seconds...should come off
unfortunately, you just have to wait for it to come off on its own. you probably removed some of it with the rubbing alcohol, but your skin is stained. you have to wait for the colored skin cells to naturally make there way off your skin. it shouldn't take more than a couple days (wash that area a couple times a day).

i'm a hairstylist, and i get color on my all the time. there really isn't anything that will remove it, besides anything that you've already tried.

for future reference, the key to preventing your skin from getting stained is protecting it before it gets colored. put a thick conditioner around your hairline and on your ears (it acts as a barrier). also, if you get any on you, you should remove it as soon as your done applying the color. dont wait for it to process, and then try to get it off afterwards. it obviously doesn't work (as you know). also, if you notice some spots when your ready to rinse it off, DO NOT try to wash it with water! take a little of the leftover color (either from your hair or the bottle you used to apply it) and rub a small amount onto the spot on your skin. the fresh color will help reactivate the color on your skin, and it will come off easier.
Any kind of facial TONER, like seabreeze. It works like a charm! Soak a cotten ball then apply to skin. Push down with a little pressure for about 15 seconds then wipe and repeat. Good luck!
Cigarrette ash, rub it over and then wash. Works like a charm!
    I don't know.
Try ajax ...? It works on getting dark markers off.

It runs for about $10 bucks or so and you can find it in the same place where you find the box hair colors. It will take the black out of your hair and will bring it up to a nice brown, and even if your hair comes out un-even, all you would have to do is color over it with whatever tone of Brown you want.

Color Oops dissolves the color molecules so they wash right out leaving you with a clean ';Easel: to color on. The developus.com website explains how it works. I've used it many times.

First of all, don't do it yourself, because it will kill your hair and the color you get can be unpredictable. A professional can wash the black out with much less damage to your hair, and then make the color right.
would you put cheap cream on a rash? no.

so please don't spare the expense with your hair. if you have dyed it alot you should go to a professional so they can restore the colour otherwise your hair will get even more damaged.
I think you can go to a stylist;hairdresser.. and they can bring it back to your natural color.

My answer is about the GNC UltraNourishair and ProCaps labs capsules...

I have taken the GNC pills for 4 months and supplemented them with extra Biotin because they only have 1200 mcg of Biotin and you should try for a minimum of 2500 micrograms.

I am switching to Procaps labs capsules when I run out of the GNC because Procaps formula has more Biotin in a more pure form with more of the trace elements that support healthy hair growth.

I take about 5000 micrograms which equals 5 milligrams of Biotin daily and my hair is growing fast and thick and dark. How Can you make black hair grow faster?

Head Massage For Fast Hair Growth

    http://hair-care-info.blogspot.com/2006/鈥?/a>
That's why I do my own hair and have thoroughly researched how to take care of my hair type. Pro. stylists tend to be so scissor-happy when they spot split ends or unevenness. The same thing that happened to you happened to my sister and she was real upset about it because she had shoulder length hair and you know it takes hair a long time to grow. Try using Shea butter and Kelechi Hair oil in your hair or another essential oil (olive/jojoba) three times a week as your moisturizer. Some women use a moisturizer and then massage a little oil on top of their hair and scalp too (It helps lock in moisture for dry/porous hair). If you don't want to wear your real hair for a while that's understandable. You could always use wigs during the day time and take them off when you get home. Keep doing this until your hair gains a few inches. Trim hair according to need. Make sure to take good care of your hair trimming 1/4-1/2 inch every 7 weeks or at least 3-4 times a year, and deep conditioning or use leave-in conditioner. Also, occassional hot oil treatments and scalp massages (stimulates nerves, muscles and blood vessels of scalp) are beneficial. Taking vitamins is good for your overall health but it will not make that much of a difference for your hair in my personal experience. You'll still do good if you just try to eat healthy. I started growing my hair out a few months ago too: It was about chin length. And I am doing it naturally--I keep cornrows in my head for two months with one touch up, then I go a couple of weeks without them, then I repeat the cycle. My hair is almost on my shoulder. If you get perms, get them about every 8 weeks: You don't want to over-process your hair. Only apply the relaxer to the new-growth too. You can only re-perm the whole head after every 6-8 months. Use good quality products for your hair type. If your hair is chemically treated, you need to get reconstructers and conditioners for that kind of hair to promote growth and prevent damage. And this is last...Make sure you get a monthly protein treatment or your quality products should contain some amount of it. Protein is very essential and good for hair growth.
Stop taking those vitamins. Our hair needs two things to promote hair growth. Adding moisture and scalp message.

Use an hair dressing that contains natural herbs and vitamins and apply it to your scalp, hairline and temple areas. The using the balls of your fingers message it in. This will help the blood circulate which stimulates the hair follicles which increase hair growth. Do this at least two times week.
Start eating food full of fibers and..... be in good mood

Your hair will grow very quickly
i really dont think you can. ive heard of braiding it...but i dunno if it works or not so yeah.
have your hair braided! i know you think I'm crazy but the average hair growth is 1/2 inch a months with having your hair braided twice a week it will grow about 2 inches! i promise i has to have it done to my little girl that is mixed but s he has black girls hair!
If you want hair to grow faster, you have to take supplements that work on your body chemistry to support hair's growth and strength at its genesis.....once it has grown out, it is just dead keratin

Try GNC, they make a supplement called ';Nourishair'; in formulas for men and women..they are HUGE pills and you have to take 2 daily. There is also a ';Hair skin and nails'; formula from Andrew Lessman that you can google, that has great ingredients and is easier to swallow, made by ProCaps labs. You can also take large doses of Biotin, sometimes called Vitamin H, take no less than 2500 micrograms daily to support healthy hair growth. It may take 6 to 8 weeks to see results.

As to the cost of Nourishair, it is about 10 dollars for a one month supply.
I too had short hair for a short time and decided to grow it back long i used tea tree oil and kept it braided up. it worked and my hair is down my back.

What are good black hair care products for natural and transitioning hair?

I am currently transitioning and am 3 months in. I still have a ton of relaxed hair left. I have a dry scalp and I am looking to find ORGANIC hair products for natural and transitioning black hair. What are good black hair care products for natural and transitioning hair?
You will need a moisturizing shampoo (without sodium laureth sulfate, commonly known as sls; it dries the hair out and strips it of it's natural oils and moisture) you may want to try aubrey organics products for this (can find them at whole foods stores); next you will need a protein deep conditioner: organics hair mayo (in a jar) or organics replenish packs. both of these work great for me (i've been transitioning for 7 months) and they help tame my natural hair. also, invest in a moisturizing leave-in conditioner and a protein leave-in conditioner. I use giovanni direct leave-in for my protein conditioner and i'm still on the lookout for a moisturizing leave-in (I'll probably invest in pure shea butter or aloe vera with glycerin). this is what works for me; there's so much information out there for properly caring for hair, especially when dealing with two textures. the key is to have patience and to learn and understand your hair and what it's telling you. if you would like more detailed information you can email me at my yahoo address. What are good black hair care products for natural and transitioning hair?

I am transitioning as well and I use Mineral Indulgence on my hair as well as my customers. Their products are 100% natural (no mineral oil, petroleum, preservatives, dyes, ect) and are made for Black women BY Black women. I also use the Napturally Sulfate Free Shampoo, because it detangles natural and transitioned hair really well (you should DEFINITELY consider this product, your hair will be unbelievably soft). My little girl had a itchy dry scalp and I used the Shea and Cocoa Butter Hair Creme along with the herbal remedies scalp serum to clear up her scalp issue. I'm not sure what store they sell their products in, but I do know that you can order samples of the products you are interested in.

I've been wearing a relaxer in my hair almost 11 years because of my mother's choice to wear my hair this way.I've been getting my hair professionally done.I want to go natural some day and give up relaxers. My hair is long, past my shoulders but it's really damaged. I want to bring out my natural beauty and embrace it. How long does it take for hair to go natural?Black hair:How long will it take for my hair to go natural?
I went natural in early July of 2008 and I love it! I've noticed that my hair is growing back thicker and stronger, and it's no longer breaking off, so it's definitely healthier! You will be natural as soon as you cut off all the permed hair, so it depends on you. If you decide to cut it all off today then you will be natural today. For most naturals, being natural means not having any chemicals in your hair (sans hair dye), so as soon as the chemically treated hair is gone then you are 100% natural. Your relaxer will not revert back to your natural hair so you do have to, at some point, cut if all off. When you do this is up to you and how long you want your natural hair to be before you do the BC (big chop or big cut).

I decided to go natural for the same reasons you mentioned. The perm was burning my head and causing scabs, and days later my head was still stinging from the perm. I decided at the last minute to get all the perm cut off instead of getting a touch-up. I now have about 1-2 inches of a curly TWA (teeny weeny afro). I was permed for about 13 years, first perm was at 13/14 y/o, so I remembered what my natural hair looked like before I started perming. My hair was also breaking off badly because of neglect - I hated getting touch-ups (obviously), and I hated always having to condition my scalp. With natural hair I only have to apply the moisture to my hair and not my scalp.

The longer you've been permed increases your chances of having what is called ';scab hair.'; This is hair that is still affected by years of perms. Scab hair is rough to the touch and very dry and icky looking; it's brittle, too. So, if you have scab hair then it could take several months, up to a year or longer, before you start seeing your true hair texture; You might have just a few patches of scab hair or your whole head might be filled with it. With approximately 13 years of perms I have a lot of scab hair, but I'm slowly seeing my hair change textures and this is truly a fascinating sight to behold. As a child I had wavy hair (if you're familiar with hair types then it's a 2 a/b hair type, I'm not mixed with anything, BTW) and as my real hair texture comes in I'm beginning to see bigger curls (or waves, too early to tell). Everyone does not experience scab hair, but if you find patches of your hair that is very dry and rougher looking than other parts of your hair then it could be scab hair. I've put in the sources section some websites so you can learn more about becoming natural. Motowngirl.com is my favorite and very informative.Black hair:How long will it take for my hair to go natural?
start going natural as soon as possible. the more you keep relaxing it the more damaged it can get. go to your hair salon and they have some sort of treatment to HELP fix damaged hair. you might also have to use some products and shampoos/conditioners especially for damaged hair.

You do realize that only your new growth with be natural don't you? All of your hair that was chemically straightened will need to be trimmed off. Either all at once or gradually as your hair grows out. Even than it takes months for your natural hair texture to Truly emerge because the chemicals have done a job on your scalp.

Going natural is a beautiful thing. You have to change the way you care for your also. You can't continue to use the same shampoo, conditioner and styling products and expect the same results you got when your hair was relaxed.

If you're really ready for this big change, then do your research and ask questions.

well, its all up to the person. i have been transitioning for 6 months now, and will probably chop the relaxed ends by the end of february. some people i know go for the big chop, which is pretty much cutting all your hair off. if you are not ready for that type of commitment, try cutting your hair every now and then until the natural hair grows back. usually the longer your hair, the harder people have time transitioning. your hair grows about 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch every month so get to know your hair and find out what is best for you. of course, transitioning is going to be a hard road, as your relaxed ends begin to break off sometimes in clumps. sometimes, i can just rub my fingers through my hair and dry brittle relaxed ends come out in clumps. but no worries, that just lets me know im one more step to gorgeous natural hair. one other thing i notice is that people say they are going to go natural, but quit after they notice how difficult it is to transition. one thing for sure, the natural hair first grows dry and frizzy, so you probably one tell how your natural hair is until the new growth is about one inch long. so have patience and most of luck!
Girl....it'll be the best choice everr

I never liked perms b/c they burned and it hurt

I went ';natural'; in october of 06

People to this day think i have a perm and say ohhh your hair is soo soft...it's longer and it's just a matter of maintenance...it's not that hard to deal with after a while...well for me it is b/c i have thick hair, but i like doing my hair...

it took me a few months to get adjusted, but i recall my beautician saying your hair will kind of want the relaxer and break off some in the beginning...but it won't be like that for a long time as long as you keep it up and i know you will....and for the naturalness the curls to come out...i'd say a few months just so the perm is out of your system...prior to going natural...i had been gettin perms since i was 6...sooo...about 8 years...
well trim your ends often and within 3 months you should start to see a change. and by doing that your natural hair will be healthier. just like if you were to grow out your hair and see your roots and then going to get your hair relaxed for a touch up, just do not get it touched up.and i know a problem with black hair is being able to maintain hydration so go to your professional stylist and get hair conditioning treatments...
Usually it takes some months. Those chemicals not only got on and in your hair, but into your scalp and skin as well, so it'll be some time before they get out.

It personally took me 6 months for my hair to be almost 100% natural again, after having it chemically altered since I was 3 or 4 years old.
it depends on how fast your hair grows... My mom who's half black half white her hairs grows long in about 7 or maybe 8 months, but my hair that's a whole other story. Im transitioning myself and ive been into it for about 4 months, already im in love with my new growth, But i give my hair about 7 to 9 more months before i decide to actually cut off my relaxed ends... Some people i know have transitioned for years some only weeks. Like I said it depends on the person.

    hope i helped. :)
it will take a while to grow out bc your hair is a lil long so u should go get a wash deep conditioner and roller set and a cut every 2 weeks it should be long and natural THE LONGEST A YEAR babes

I have dyed my hair black quite a few times, and now i would like to get it somewhat lighter. I have thought of using a few bottles of blonde dye to lighten it, but I am not sure how many would be needed to have any effect. Help?Black Hair %26gt;.%26lt;?
You should probably get it done professionally to protect your hair, because if you messed it up... disaster could strike! If you don't want to pay to go to a salon, you could just go to one and ask one of the hairdressers what you could do, if they're nice, they would probably tell you! Good Luck- blondes do have more fun!Black Hair %26gt;.%26lt;?
If your hair is black, you'd have to bleach it first, then color it once. Otherwise, the dye might turn your hair a funky color. My sister has a friend with dark brown hair, and her mom tried to dye the top blonde without bleaching it first, and it turned out a weird reddish color.
bleach ..but not too much of it.. unless your hair isnt that long..condition would be good afterwards.. bleach done wrong.. could damage ur hair big time.. lol
You can't lighten it. You'll have to use bleach, and then dye it a few shades lighter than black. I really, really don't think you should do it at home. You could ruin your hair. Black is really tough to get out of your hair. Especially if you dyed it more than once.

So your best bet would be to go to a salon. It's going to be a long, rough process, but if you want to get it out, it's what you have to do. Unless you just grow it out like I'm doing. Already have about four inches of my natural hair color grown out. :)
ive tried that. blonde dye doesn't lighten black at all. i just bleached it off-white with Raw 40 volume bleach (at hot topic), and then if you do that, you can have it any color you want :]

i made mine hot pink haha.

    Black hair?

im mexican/italian and i cant seem to find any haircolor that will show on my hair. any suggestions? its jet black naturally. i really dont have the money to go get it done proffesionally i was just wondering if their were any other ways. thanksBlack hair?
Using store brand dyes is very hard to make your hair lighter, making it darker with them is easy but lighter is hard. I would suggest choosing a color that is just a shade lighter than your hair now and use that. Then two weeks later get one that's one shade lighter than that one and use it. Continue going lighter and lighter until you reach your desired shade. You wont be able to go blond or anything but a brown shade is possible...Black hair?
If you have Jet black hair and you want to make it brown you'll need to use a blondish color and leave it in for an extra ten minutes, but start from the ends and work your way to the roots. If you start from the roots you'll get that ';skunk stripe'; down the part of your hair.

If you want to go way lighter you'll have to use a bleaching kit to get it to the light brown or dark blonde. You can get one from any beauty supply store.
There is haircolors in black at the stores.
try lightening it with lemon juice before coloring
I have jet black hair too. I put a really white blonde into it and it turns it a brown-ish. Over time it turns red, but then I redye it and it goes back to normal brown. Hope that helped!
Sounds like you probably have to bleach it first, then color it.

I have dyed my hair jet black now for over 10 years, and if I want it any other way, I wind up having to bleach it first.

You can buy a pouch of powder bleach and mix it with developer (I suggest 40 volume for such dark hair). Note that developers for bleach and color are different. You can get supplies at Sally's or other beauty supply store. Read the bleach pouch and the developer bottle before you buy them. You can also buy a bleach kit if you want. Either way you will spend about $10-15 for supplies. (Don't forget gloves!!)

L'Oreal Quick Blue works well for me. If it is your first time bleaching, I would also suggest picking up a moisturizing deep conditioning pack to use after coloring. Just read all the instructions and follow them carefully, you should be fine!

Also I have very thick hair, which sounds like you may too. Bleaching will change the texture of your hair at least a little. I use one of those conditioning packs on my hair about once a week, they infuse a lot of moisture to your hair and protect it too. (They will cost about a dollar, and they are worth it!) Mane + Tail type is awesome for very thick hair......but they are all good because what you need is moisture + protection, they all do this. Hope this helps.
To get any other color on your hair your gonna have to strip out the dark color first ( as in lighten it), Im pretty sure that they dont make color that will lift color or cover hair that dark. ..so it will have to be bleached..which if done yourself will damage it and turn it some funky colors. . then you'll have to go back and color it the color you want.. it will take many steps and shouldnt be done in a short period of time.

I wouldnt risk doing it yourself, you should wait until you have money saved up to pay for it to be professionally done.

And just think how lucky you are to have hair that dark naturally- -lots of people pay for it and cant even pull it off.

    ;)
