How can one with black hair tell if he or she has really bad dandriff or lice?

My friend has white flakes throughout his hair. There are large pieces and small pieces. Sometimes I wonder if its just dandruff and/or an infestation of lice.How can one with black hair tell if he or she has really bad dandriff or lice?
Tie your hair back really well and comb through his hair. If you see black lice moving around, or small white clumps stuck to the base of a hair, and it wont come off when you put at it, then he's got lice.


If the white specks move around freely and there are MANY of them, then it's just dandruff.How can one with black hair tell if he or she has really bad dandriff or lice?
Lice are not flake like, they are round and more than likely he would see them move. Lice themselves are not white but black, their eggs are white. Again flaky probably equals dandruff, or some other form of dry scalp.
