What is a good way to lighten dark to black hair?

Okay, so i use to have light brown hair until i died it dark n its now close to black. Ive lately have gotten sick of touching up my roots almost every month. What should i do to help lighten it? highlights...blonde, brown, chocolate brown? I need some help to try and lighten it especially since it's summer it will lighten in the sun, but i hate the look of roots showing. I need HELP please! :)What is a good way to lighten dark to black hair?
Bleach it.

Putting a lighter color won't do anything except fade quickly and damage your hair. What is a good way to lighten dark to black hair?
you will have to lighten it slowly with highlights if you want to maintain a healthy texture. go, get the highlights,be specific of the actual shade of blonde you would like. do not let them talk you into any type of lowlights, tell them you would like to lighten over time to avoid damage. go back once a month or so,repeat to desired lightness. the ONLY other option since you have color on your hair (cant lift color with color, only bleach) you would have to bleach it, then go over the blonde with your desired color....VERY damaging. i suggest the highlights darlin;)
Died?? Did you mean ';dyed';? Either way, it was the wrong thing to use. I didn't know anyone even used dye these days... we haven't used it for well over 70 years!! Dye is used for fabrics and leathers... not hair. If it was a dye, you can't remove it. You can only cut it off.

If you had used a real hair colour, you may have been able to remove it. If it was a tint, it would get lighter a little over time. When you are doing your roots, you would use a lighter shade every time.. and after a couple of times, you would be progressively as light as you wanted.

The proper thing you should do is remove the dark colour. DO NOT use a bleach! There is such a thing as a colour remover.... use it!! Didn't you even ask your colourist about this?? That is the only logical thing to do.... trying to do something yourself would be a disaster... since you don't even know what you used.

You can only lighten your hair with hair bleach, not chlorine bleach. But not knowing what you had used, and what shade it is now, it is hard to give specifics. That is why you discuss this with your colourist first before doing anything. Sometimes it's best to just leave it alone until it grows out. You knew you were going to get roots, didn't you?
like Maddie said, you have to bleach it. If you died it dark, there is no way to get rid of it without bleach.
i would dye it a brown color (like a coffee w creamer in it brown)

that wouldn't be as hard to see the roots:)
