I mean, I KNOW there is a difference, but whats the explanation on the difference of their hair? What is the biological difference between African/black hair and caucasian hair?
well, most but NOT all African American hair is coarse. meaning that the cuticle of the hair shaft is open(making it a rough feel to the touch) but not all. some are very soft! and not coarse.
as oppose to Caucasian, they can have coarse hair too! it could be straight, wavy or curly and feel coarse..
so if some ones texture is:
fine-it means the cuticle of the hair is sealed and closed
(fine meaning the TEXTURE. not the density of the hair)
medium-usually the cuticle could be closed or some what open a little.
coarse- meaning that the cuticle is open.making the hair a more ruff feel to the touch.
oh ya just in case you don't know what the cuticle of the hair is:
if you were to see a single strand of hair under a microscope you would see these shingle like things along it..kinda like the shingles on a roof top. if you feel what I'm trying to explain.
so if those shingles are closed... the hair is more medium or fine..if they are open or they look ';lifted'; then the hair is more coarse or could be medium--(depending on how it feels to the touch)....that's the best way i could explain it.....i hope i helped you!!What is the biological difference between African/black hair and caucasian hair?
well it's the kind of proteins....african hairs have the curly appearance which is due to the coiled protein in them...where in caucasian hair the protein is more straight
More disulphide bonding in African American hair.
