How do I go from colored black hair to a lighter shade w/no damage?

Doing hair at home.

I don't usually color my hair, but I recently colored it black (about 2-3 wks ago).

I tried going a shade lighter (medium golden brown) but my hair still looks black.

I don't want my hair to turn green or weird looking so how do I do the change?

How do I go to a lighter shade like medium golden brown or Mahogany brown without damaging it and actually seeing the color change?

Anyone experienced in this department have some advice? How do I go from colored black hair to a lighter shade w/no damage?
You can't color over black hair. That's the reason you're not seeing the color.

You have to either strip the color out, or use bleach. Both being damaging to your hair. How do I go from colored black hair to a lighter shade w/no damage?
i am VERY experienced with hair dye and you can trust me when i say that you are going to damage your hair. any time you dye your hair you are damaging it. especially if you are going lighter. there is peroxide in all hair dye, and as the shades get lighter, the amount of peroxide goes up. however, if you MUST get your hair lighter, its going to take more than one try. dye your hair about 3 to 4 shades lighter than the color result you want, which will get you close (since your hair is black now) but it will give you reddish tones. if you want to get rid of the red tones, you will have to dye it again with a ';cool'; color. which means the dye has NO reddish or copper tones in it. the box will say ';cool'; on the top next to the color sample picture. this, like any other dye method is going to damage your hair. but since you said you dont usually dye your hair, it shouldnt be beyond repair. so pick up a little container of ';cholesterol'; from your drug store, walgreens has it too. just put it in your damp hair before you go to bed, and wrap a plastic grocery bag around your head. this will get rid of any damage in about 2 weeks. (its freekin awesome) neway hope i helped you!
You will either have to bleach your hair or strip it. These are both very damaging but the only way to get your hair lighter. In the future i would suggest if dying your hair black use a semi permanant
Good Luck finding a way....Your going to have to bleach your hair, But afterwards, Since your going dark, Use a Semi-permanent(which is least damaging then permanent.)
