My friend has black hair and she said that she dyed her hair brown. But ive been told that black hair cannot be dyed into any colour unless it is bleached into blonde. She said that if you leave the brown dye on your hair for 1 and a half hours, it turns brown. Is she correct? Please answer. Thank you in advanced. Can you dye black hair into brown in one go?
oh gosh no, don't do that u have to lift the black off your hair to turn it brown, the only way she did it is if it was bleached and it turned brown....if u leave it in ur hair for and hour and a half u will seriously damage your hair. Can you dye black hair into brown in one go?
If her hair is naturally black she can use a higher developer (probably a 40) to lighten her hair to brown with the dye. If she'd dyed her hair black then tried to go brown, she'd have to bleach or color correct (basically the same thing) the black dye from her hair before applying a brown dye to it because color doesn't lift color, it just masks it. Meaning you can go from light to dark, but not dark to light. It's true the longer she left the dye on her hair the lighter it would turn (with the correct developer, eventually lightening tops out) but that causes more damage to the hair.
Obviously, you got a few things mixed up there. First of all, you can't always believe everything that a ';friend'; tells you.
Dye, used on fabrics and leather, not on hair, is only used to make things darker. It adds more colour to things; you cannot ever go lighter with a dye.
In order to get very dark brown hair (no one has true black hair) lighter, you need to remove colour material from the hair. That is lightening or bleaching hair. All permanent tints have bleach in them, even the black, and they will lighten hair a couple of shades. You do not have to bleach hair to yellow to go brown! But you do need to remove some colour from dark hair to make it lighter.
Any brown tint will work just fine. You do not leave it on for 1.5 hours!! You follow the directions, and generally 45 min is the maximum time-- after that, the action has stopped, so there is no point in leaving it on longer!
When you know what you are doing, you can assure good results. When you follow the advice of ';friends';, you never know what will happen! Always get advice from a qualified professional hair colourist. A consultation is normally no charge at most salons. Ask them. Do a strand test. You don't want any surprises with this!

if her hair was naturally black and she dyed her hair brown and not happy with the brown color.. re color and leave it on for 45 mins
if her hair was colored black first then brown.. she needs to bleach it.. but not to blonde.. just a bit lighter shade than she wants.. and then recolor it to brown
color does not lighten color
if you leave on color longer than 45 mins.. the color stops action.. it will not help to leave it on all day.. the only thing it will do is dry out the hair.. it can also cause and allergic reaction and you will no longer be able to color your hair
go to a professional to get what you want... and then you can keep it colored that color your self
It may be impossible

you need to go to a salon for it to lifted properly!! and leaving (some) colours on for more than the box says wouldnt make a diff as most of them (except bleach) have cut out times on them!!! xxx
No she isn't.
It would just make her dark hair darker.
she must have lightened it up some how, either with using bleach or just the sun.
It can go brown in one go, if the product has less bleach it'll work. It's also healthier for your hair
lol.
that's not true :)
