I've heard that mineral oil is horrible for your hair so I switched to emu oil and jojoba oil. Now, I'm hearing that those oils don't 'moisturize' your hair. In addition to these I've also been using Wen Cleansing Conditioner as a leave in moisturizer.
Is there a good moisturizer/hair lotion for African american hair (again without mineral oil)? What is the best moisturizer for black hair?
Yeah...oils don't moisturize the hair, they seal in moisture...moisture is water or aloe based products. I have black kids and I use the Kiwi Coconut Hair Smoothie as a moisturizer on my kids hair, it's all natural without any mineral oil or petroleum. It's really good stuff and leaves a coconuty smell in your hair after a while.
I put it on their hair and let them sit under the dryer for deep conditioned shiny soft hair. I put it on their hair when it's wet and dry...ect. It works well at everything.

I use Wen as a leave-in too and I use pure olive oil to seal in the moisture. What I used to do before I purchased Wen was to add some pure coconut oil to my hair and either get it wet from the shower or dampen it in the sink. Then I would add my Giovanni Direct leave-in and seal with pure olive oil. The reason for adding the coconut oil to my hair was so my hair would not become overly dry at night, so when I woke up in the morning my hair was still moist from the coconut oil.
Before I bought Giovanni I used to use Nexus and Neutrogena Tripple Moisture daily moisturizers. They are great for my hair and I might still use them from time-to-time. Most hair products for blacks contain bad ingredients so I avoid those products and use those that are for every hair type.
