How to dye black hair a lighter colour?

I currently have dyed black hair and wanted to do something a little different. I wanted to go back to my natural colour (Dark brown), maybe with some highlights. My question is, do I have to wait until the black grown out to get a lighter colour or is there another way to do it? I don't want to wait that long. How to dye black hair a lighter colour?
IM A STYLIST AND I HAVE TO TELL YOU ALL MISINFORMED INFO IS SCARY .COLOR WILL NOT LIFT MAN MADE COLOR .YOUR BLACK COLORED HAIR WILL HAVE TO BE LIGHTENED WITH BLEACH THEN RECOLORED BROWN IF THAT'S WHAT YOUR GOING FOR .I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DOING THAT ALL OVER .HIGHLIGHTS ARE YOUR BEST BET .YOU CAN COLOR THEM THE COLOR YOU WANT AFTER YOU GET THE BLACK BEACHED OFF.';DONT TRY THIS AT HOME ';How to dye black hair a lighter colour?
Start with a basic rinse of a dark-dark brown and add highlights of your natural color and gradually from the dark-dark brown to your natural color change your hair through shades. Eventually you'll be at your natural color and it will look normal to friends and family instead of going from black to brown in one salon visit.
I haven't tried it, but I've heard a lot of people recommend Colour Oops. It removes hair colour without bleaching or damaging your hair - you could try using Colour Oops, then dying your hair brown afterwards :)
You could get it striped at the hair dressers.

I once waited untill my roots came though and then asked them to match the colour.
Well it is probably hard to but you could try it and see if it works.
