How do you go from black hair to bright red hair?

I currently have jet black hair and I wanted to dye my hair a bright red instead. I want to do it myself but I don't know how to go about it without drying out my hair or chemically damaging it. Any help? How do you go from black hair to bright red hair?
your gonna have to bleach your hair then dye it red..but the red will fade quickly and youll always have to maintain itHow do you go from black hair to bright red hair?
Bleaching is your only option. That being said, the amount of bleach that would have to be used to lift that dark of a color from your whole head, would FRY your hair regardless of whether you had it done professionally or on your own.

If you want the bright red, I would suggest maybe bleaching the underside of your hair or the bangs. Even bleaching parts (like a highlight) then dying them the color red you want would still look very nice.
fyi-any dye or bleach products DO chemically damage hair! You must be careful and condition like crazy! (i highly recommend leave in conditioners). Many dyes are formulated to make hair shiny though, so you may want to look for that! AT least it wont ';look'; so damaged! Be careful about the fact that you new hair will grow in black too and it will be a pain to keep bleaching and dying your roots. Something to consider. Also BE CERTAIN all the products you use on your hair are safe for coloered hair and try to stay away from heat styling!
You have to get it bleached out first, you should get it professionally done so you won't damage it. Then you can dye your hair whatever color you want. If you try it at home be careful not to leave the bleach in too long.

you would have to bleach it then dye it the red color you want but i really wouldnt recommend doing that your self cause if you mess up it will cost you a whole lot of money to get it fixed
Please go to a pro. The hair nearest your scalp is warmer and will develop the red shade much quicker than the middle and ends. You'll end up with red roots and black ends.
you have to bleach it out, but with hair that dark, you would have to bleach it multiple times, which would most likely damage your hair, I suggest you go to a professional hair stylist
